Cool ad in today’s Trib. #Northwestern played #niu – and lost. How bout the #illini? Enough of Youngstown St. pic.twitter.com/h3E93no8Ck

Northern Illinois’ alumni must have been feeling pretty good about their alma mater this week.
Good enough, in fact, that they took an add out in Friday’s Chicago Tribune congratulating their team on its victory over Northwestern, adding “NEXT? We are looking at you, Illini” above a picture of a hungry husky.
The kicker was the closing line on the bottom of the ad, which read “Chicago’s Big Time College Football Team!”, a play on the Wildcats’ “Chicago’s Big Ten Team” slogan.
NIU doesn’t play the Illini this season, but its recent success has certainly made Northwestern and Illinois’ fight for Chicago turf look pretty silly. Come to think of it, the Big Ten in general has been good at looking silly these days.
